On April 11, Chappaqua's Board of Education approved a Chappaqua School Foundation (CSF) traditional grant in the amount of $316,785 to purchase hardware, software, and professional development to support and expand the District’s 1:1 DLI.
The School District is in the first year of a 5-year plan to provide every student with immediate access to a personal computing device.
In partnership with the foundation, in school year 2018-19, the District will provide personal computers for all students in grades 5 and 6, and with the support of CSF funding, iPads for all students in grades 3 and 4, software, and professional development for the faculty.
The DLI is the result of a multi-year study and year-long planning process led by Joshua Culwell-Block, CCSD Director of Technology and Innovation, the K-12 Technology Committee, and the Innovation Committee, a joint CSF/CCSD team comprised of parents, students and administrators. Future years of the DLI include expansion of district purchased devices for all students in grades K-2. Students in grades 7-12 will follow a bring your own device to school model.
“We are allowing our instructional goals, new learning spaces, and developmental needs drive our digital initiative and our device selection,” said Culwell-Block.
The iPads will allow for fast and safe access to online research, applications that support personalized learning, seamless collaboration using AirPlay, Google Apps, and Apple Classroom, the development of elementary coding skills, and easy creation and editing of multimedia projects. These devices will be used in both classroom spaces and the newly constructed Global Learning Centers.
“CSF is thrilled to have been able to partner with the District on this exciting 1:1 Digital Learning Initiative. Because of the generosity of our community, our children are able to learn in innovative settings, utilize the latest technologies, and have the advantage of living in a community centered on education,” said Marjorie Troob, President of the Chappaqua School Foundation.
